PCO (Photo Catalytic Oxidation) photocatalytic oxidation technology provides one of the most effective solutions to the problem of indoor air pollution by pathogenic microorganisms and Voc (Cov).

The photocatalytic process is produced by the action of low-energy ultraviolet light on a catalyst in the presence of water vapor, which generates hydroxyl radicals that destroy viruses, bacteria, and VOCs in the air and on surfaces.

PCO photocatalytic technology has proven to be very effective in decontaminating the air and any surface in the elimination of viruses, microorganisms, VOCs, bacteria and spores. This technology, when combined with a HEPA filter, becomes a complete answer to the problem of indoor air quality, guaranteeing its disinfection and purification.

ETCS is one of the few companies in the international market and the only national one that endorses and certifies the effectiveness of each of its photocatalytic reactors  with external laboratory tests.

Our systems help to certify, through UNE-ISO/PAS 45005/2021, the management of health and safety in workplaces and public centers.

Origin of PCO Technology

TM

The history of PCO technology began in the space developments carried out by NASA in 1994...

When NASA began planning for deep space exploitation including proposed manned missions to Mars, such as the Constellation Mission program in 2013 that required sustaining life in space for months or even years.

But NASA had a problem... Before preparing for deep space exploration, NASA had to find an answer to the plants and vegetables that destroy ethylene gas on the space shuttle. Ethylene gas is a natural hormone released by plants and vegetables to indicate ripening. In soil, the buildup of ethylene becomes toxic and will kill those very plants and vegetables if it is not removed.

And a solution was found... NASA scientists developed a new green technology called PCO photocatalytic oxidation to remove the buildup of ethylene gas. PCO technology breaks down ethylene gas into harmless carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H20) by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light in the presence of a titanium dioxide (TiO2) catalyst.

Further NASA testing revealed that PCO technology not only removed the buildup of ethylene gas, but also destroyed all carbon-based impurities in the air, such as bad odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), mold, mildew, and fungus. , bacteria and viruses.

How does it work

Triad Pure photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) technology generates two key purification technologies:

  • A plasma of positive and negative charges (H + y02 -)

  • Oxidation products with a combination of hydrogen and oxygen compounds such as vaporized hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide (H202), hydroxides (OH-), superoxides (O2-)

This replicates nature's purification process of using ultraviolet energy to activate a catalyst and convert water vapor to peroxide and hydroxyls. These powerful oxidants penetrate the cell wall and inactivate the microbe through the process of cell lysis, thereby changing the molecular structure and rendering the contaminant harmless. The result is the destruction of odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), mold, bacteria and viruses.
Photocatalytic plasma of positive and negative charges is also known as cluster ions. As these electrical charges come into contact with the water vapor (H2O), the water dissociates, forming hydroxyl radicals (HO-) that break the surface membrane of the contaminant and cause the death of the pathogen. A similar process occurs with the dissociation of the VOC  and only carbon dioxide and water vapor remain.

Advantages of photocatalytic oxidation PCO     :

TM

  • No residual contamination. It does not generate any type of waste.

  • No chemicals. It does not use chemical products such as aerosols or air fresheners.

  • Without generating ozone.

  • Ecological. Low consumption and minimum maintenance.

  • Dramatically reduces contaminants immediately at the source.

  • Decontamination of air and surfaces.

  • Microbicidal and sporicidal activity.

  • Non-toxic system safe to breathe.

  • No by-products or toxic residues.

  • No downtime.

  • Easy to install.

  • Reduces sickness and/or work absenteeism.

  • Substantial odor reduction.

Moisture Consideration

Dust Free requires at least 40% humidity to provide an adequate amount of hydrogen peroxide. If you live in a dry area, installing a humidifier is recommended to keep the humidity at an optimal level.
