WHAT IS COLD PLASMA TECHNOLOGY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The cold plasma technology used by ETCS consists of devices that create an electric field in which electrons are generated from electrically neutral air molecules that pass through this electric field, generating mostly ionized oxygen and nitrogen (O-, O+, N- and N+). This ionization occurs at room temperature and to differentiate it from ionization due to high temperatures, it is defined as "non-thermal plasma" or "cold plasma", understanding "plasma" to mean ionized matter, the fourth state of matter. Therefore, the generation of electrons is produced by a physical and not a chemical reaction.
Like sunlight in the atmosphere, the cold plasma technology used by ETCS creates a natural bio-climate rich in positive and negative oxygen ions. Negative ions contain an extra electron while positive ions are missing an electron resulting in an unstable condition. In an effort to restabilize these bipolar ions seek out atoms and molecules in the air to exchange electrons, neutralizing 99% of any organic particles such as bacteria and virus cells, mold, mildew, dust, pollen, dead cells, and gases, odors, aerosols (VOC). These compounds, mostly aldehydes, ketones, benzene rings, hydrocarbons with low carbon numbers, radical groups, etc., are easily attackable by oxygen ions, and analogously to combustion, generating carbon dioxide and water as residues without the presence of harmful by-products.
The effect of inactivating pathogens or any organic particle in the environment is achieved through electrostatic charging, also dominated by a physical reaction, where the ions overcome the electrostatic rigidity of the cell membrane (maximum tension that the lipid membrane can withstand without being perforated) by crossing the protein coat of the cell, coming into contact with its intracellular material, inactivating its ability to reproduce and finally inactivating the microorganism. This phenomenon, known as "electro-permeabilization" or "electroporation", is a physical phenomenon of an exclusively electrostatic nature.
The charge of each ion is 1 or 2 electrons, the charge of the electron being 1.6*10^-19 C (Coulombs). The nominal ion density is of the order of 10,000 ions*cm3, that is, an electrostatic charge of 1.6*10^-15 C*cm3 of air, with 20,000 ions*cm3, and with a maximum charge of two electrons, the electrostatic charge would be 3.2*10-15 C*cm3 of air, therefore, the electrostatic incidence in the environment is negligible.
